Website building for beginners
Hi all, Em here today.
I wanted to share this post with you because I’ve created this website, and I’ve got no skills. Zero, zip. Let me show you how you can, too! This is your guide to website building for beginners.
Creating your own website, which you can then use as an online business platform, is one of the most effective ways you can generate extra income for yourself. There are plenty of people out there earning a decent living with their online businesses. That’s not us (yet!), but there’s no reason why it can’t be. So there’s no reason why it can’t be you, too.
How do I get started?
You need an idea for your site. This should be something you are interested in or passionate about, because you’re gonna spend a lot of time writing about it!
You need to make sure your idea is quite specific. For example, I write a weight loss website. As you can imagine, there are tons of weight loss websites out there, so chances of me ranking high in Google for this site are pretty low (don’t make the same mistake as me). However, if I wrote a weight loss site for a specific group of people e.g. busy moms who want to lose weight, that is more specific and your target audience will find you more easily.
Get a piece of paper and jot down your hobbies, sports, interests, favorite foods, whatever. Brainstorm some ideas and see if you think you could write a whole website about any of them
You need a really simple way to put your website together. I’ve chosen an awesome Wealthy Affiliate video for you to watch: it will teach you how to create a website in 30 seconds. Yes, that’s right. You can have the framework of your own website up and out there on the internet in 30 seconds with no computer skills. For free.Trust me, watch the video.
Knuckle down, there is hard work ahead, but limitless rewards, too. Now your website is up, you are going to need to write lots of information for your website, collect images, learn how to rank in Google, and so on. Don’t worry though, Wealthy Affiliate will walk you through all that stuff. Step by step. This is gonna take some time.
But: I can’t even begin to tell you how much time becoming a Wealthy Affiliate member has saved me. Before, I floundered around reading articles and asking Google when I was stuck with stuff, and I was a member of about a thousand email lists. Okay, maybe not a thousand. But I spent a lot of time searching for help and inspiration. Now Wealthy Affiliate is my one stop shop for all that, so I have more time to get on with writing articles for you guys (and prodding Andy to do his), and our websites are reaping the benefits.
How much work is this really going to be?
I would never lie to you, so let’s be straight up about the fact that it takes a lot of work to create a successful online business. It also takes time. So be prepared to sit this through for the long haul, and your patience will be rewarded. If you had a look around Wealthy Affiliate when you watched the video, you’ll have some idea of the awesome support and advice available over there. Those guys will really help you with your motivation, and will help you whenever you get stuck. I’m asking questions all the time!
Sometimes it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so here is a little success story from someone who built an online business from scratch, just like you’re about to do. Wendy went from $0 to $1000 per week with her online business. She didn’t see results right away, because that’s not how this thing works. Look where she is now though, the hard work paid off.
So now you know the three things you need to build a website as an absolute beginner:
- an idea
- some people to help you out and some training to follow
- the right attitude
So what are you waiting for? Go forth and create your website
Make sure you come back and share your website’s address with us in the comments. As usual, we love to hear how people are going, and it’s good for your rankings in Google to share your website around.
Happy downsizing (and creating),
